A Real Team Player!
|SERIES: Salute Your Best Employees!

Great employees stand out — often by not standing out at all. They just go above and beyond and do their jobs in a professional and responsible manner.
We asked Rob McConnell of Gibson’s Cleaners in Toronto what makes a great employee.
“A great employee is trustworthy and dependable,” he said. “Someone who is solutions-focused and someone you can count on. They’re a team player, and in our case, someone who can embrace change. When faced with a challenge or problem, they don’t ask, “What should I do?,” They present a solution. Most importantly, they exemplify our Gibson’s core values of being thoughtful, responsive, and accountable.”
Gibson’s isn’t shy about saluting its star players to encourage everyone in their daily work.
“Each year, we present The President’s Award at our annual holiday party to recognize an employee who has gone above and beyond,” Rob said. “Additionally, during our weekly leadership meetings, we share “good news” stories that highlight team members making a difference. This gives our leaders the chance to celebrate and acknowledge these employees in real-time or at future team gatherings.”
Even though he put Anne Marie Joseph forward for this series, Rob was torn in his choice. “Who is the best? That is a difficult question, because we’re fortunate to have a strong and dedicated team.”
It’s a nice problem to have.
